Police nab 1 more suspect in Maguindanao massacre

MANILA, Nov 6 (Mabuhay) – Tracker teams of the police and the military on Saturday arrested another suspect in the gruesome murder of 57 people in Maguindanao province last year.

Chief Superintendent Bienvenido Latag, director of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) regional police, identified the suspect as Salipada Tampugao.

Latag said Tampugao, who carries a P250,000 bounty on his head, was arrested in Purok Bango Ingued, Barangay Tamontaka, Cotabato City around 9 a.m..

He said Tampugao has been turned over to the ARMM police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and will be transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa in Manila for detention, he added.

Police said that with the arrest, only 116 of the 195 people accused of involvement in the massacre last Nov. 23, 2009 remain at large.

Members of the Ampatuan political clan have been tagged as prime suspects in the murders.

Among the victims in the massacre are members of the Ampatuans’ rival clan in Maguindanao province and members of the local media. (MNS)
