MANILA, Aug 22 (Mabuhay) – Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa has ordered police stations nationwide to implement maximum security amid the prevailing ceasefire between the government and the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos said Dela Rosa’s order covers police camps, stations and community precincts in the provinces and in Metro Manila.

Carlos added that Dela Rosa had ordered all police commanders to closely coordinate with their military counterparts in their areas of responsibility.

The PNP spokesperson said that operations against members of the CPP-NPA have been suspended following President Rodrigo Duterte’s restoration of his ceasefire declaration with the CPP-NPA.

Before he left for Oslo, Norway on Saturday, Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza announced that Duterte declared an indefinite ceasefire, which started on Sunday.

The declaration came after the CPP-NPA announced it is implementing a seven-day ceasefire, for the whole duration of the resumption of peace talks in Oslo from August 22 to 26. (MNS)
