Pinoy chef Alex Dino crowned US National Champion at prestigious chef competition

Pinoy chef Alex Dino, who is based in NYC, is the US National Champion of the Sears Chef Challenge held in Chicago on November 4, 2010.

He beat numerous chefs from around the US and his last competitor Chef Mark Maasen is a Culinary Professor at the prestigious Cordon Bleu Culinary School of Chicago. His winnings include a $20,000 kitchen makeover from Kenmore and his charity of choice, Food Bank of Central New York, will be awarded $20, 000 in cash as well.

Chef Alex Dino is a New York City trained chef, who grew up in Manila, Philippines, where he was exposed to cooking that fused Asian culture.

While pursuing his certification in Baking at the Center for Culinary Arts in the Philippines, Alex worked in research and development for a food processing company specializing in seasoning development.  Shortly after arriving in the U.S., Alex graduated with honors from the Art Institute of New York and began perfecting his craft working in New York City’s preeminent restaurants and hotel including Le Bernadin, Alta and Marriott.

Alex Dino is the Executive Chef and Owner of Sachet d’ Epices catering company that caters in the tri-state NY-NJ-CT area. Dino’s culinary creations focus on using classic Asian and European cooking techniques coupled with the finest seasonal ingredients to create unique dishes.

The February 2008 issue of Fortune Magazine featured the best three company cafeterias across America (Google, Ebay, and Factset Research Systems) and their outstanding chefs. Among the best three chefs cited by Fortune is Chef Alex Dino,  the chef of the “standout cafeteria cafe” of Factset Research Systems in Connecticut.


Alex Dino is not only a chef of great talent and creativity, but also a great advocate of healthy eating and active lifestyle. Dino is also a competitive marathoner, certified running coach, sponsored athlete and an ambassador of The Running Company.

His passion for cycling and endurance sports began in his early twenties. In 2003 Alex begun long distance running and started competing locally. He ran numerous half marathons and 30 km races. Since then Alex has competed in a number of national and international major marathon events including the prestigious Chicago, New York and Boston Marathon. In October 2008 to November 2009, Alex competed in 7 marathons including two weeks back to back, landing him a membership to Marathon Maniacs.

Alex is a certified running coach and has been training and coaching athletes of all levels. “There is nothing more gratifying than watching someone I coached cross the finish line,” says Alex. Dino is a sponsored athlete for The Running Company and founder of Sunday Training Run, a community of distance runners with different abilities.


Chef Dino is now an author and set to release his first cookbook, “MODERN TOFU: Delightfully, Decadent and Healthy”. Dino’s book is a collection of delectable tofu dishes and insightful cooking methods.

As the ambassador of Running Company, the book launch of Chef Alex Dino’s “Modern Tofu: Delightfully Decadent and Healthy” was held at the Running Company located at 1059 3rd Ave in New York last Oct 23, 2010.

After October 23, 2010, all branches of the Running Company will be selling “Modern Tofu” in their stores.
