Newly-commissioned Filipino Ministry in Orange County

DURING a Sunday Mass on September 5, 2010, Father David Gallegos, parish pastor of St. Philip Benizi Church in west Fullerton, commissioned the Filipino Ministry. On Sept. 13th, the Filipino Ministry presented its first devotion to Our Lady of the Rosa Mystica, followed by brunch at the parish hall.

“This special devotion,” said Lydia Contreras, “which included floral offering and crowning of Our Lady of the Rosa Mystica statue, led by Fr. David, is dedicated to the welfare of the priests, religious orders, deacons and lay ministers. This is a special request of Our Blessed Virgin Mary during her apparition in 1947 in Italy, to Sister Fiorina. We plan to continue this devotion every 13th of the month.”

Officers of the newly-commissioned Filipino Ministry of the St. Philip Benizi Church are: Norma Ramos, president; Josie Paquillo, vice president; Marc Gamba, secretary; Ely Slyter, treasurer; Evelyn Alvarado, auditor; and Lydia Contreras, PRO. The board members are: Lulu Amoranto, Carlito Alvarado, Lito Hidalgo, Becky Masinsin, and Belen Gamba.

The Filipino Ministry has had three successful fundraisers to date, with overwhelming cooperation from members: two casino turnaround trips to Harrah’s and participation at the multi-ethnic parish picnic during the Feast of St. Philip Benizi. Above photo shows officers of the newly-commissioned Filipino Ministry tend to their dessert table “which outlasted other display tables” during the parish picnic to celebrate the Feast of St. Philip Benizi. â–
