Kyla, dubbed local showbiz’s “Queen of R&B”, is returning to her music roots in a comeback album under Star Music.

The 37-year-old singer, whose last studio album was released in 2014, said she is thrilled with the “double lead singles” to be released ahead of her new album.

One of them is “Only Gonna Love You”, an R&B track written and produced by Jonathan Manalo, and featuring international rapper REQ. Its just-released music video, directed by John Prats, with Sam Milby and Angelica Panganiban, shows Kyla choosing between love and career.

The music video, which sees Kyla paired with actor JC de Vera, will have a continuation in the other lead single’s music video to be released on February 2.

In a press conference Friday, Kyla shared that the story woven by the two tracks reflect an aspect of her life.

“There was a time when I had to lay low [from my career]. Noong nag-asawa ako, nagkaroon ako ng anak, I had to choose, siyempre,” said Kyla, who has a son with her husband of seven years, Rich Alvarez.

She added: “Iba ‘yun, e, buhay ang pinag-uusapan. Iyon ‘yung time na tahimik ako nang kaunti. Worth it lahat ng pinagdaanan. I’ve learned a lot of invaluable lessons.”

Kyla, who is marking her 18th year in showbiz with the new album, said she feels “fortunate because the people I’ve worked with are the right people, and eventually became my good friends also.”

“Sila ‘yung dahilan kung bakit I’m here at this point in my career. I’m still here. Thankful ako dahil binigyan nila ako ng another opportunity para ipakita kung ano ang music ko and passion ko. Ito ‘yung time for me to re-connect with the audience,” Kyla said. (MNS)
