Singer-actress Karylle admitted that it was challenging for her to play a pole dancer in the upcoming Asian television series “PI (Private Investigator),” which was filmed in Singapore.
In the series, which will air January next year, Karylle plays Maya Yap, a single mother and a con woman.
“In the beginning of the story, makikita mo na isa akong pole dancer na nagta-trabaho sa Orchard Tower. Later on mami-meet niya ang isang friend at magta-try ng bagong business pero hindi sila legal. So con men sila basically,” she said.
Karylle had to take pole dancing lessons for her role. “Nagpaturo ako kay Teacher Luningning ng pole dancing and I’m very, very happy dahil mahirap maging kumportable sa katawan. Iba ‘yung ginagawa mo siya, pero iba din ‘yung kumportable ka. So nakailang sessions din kami ni teacher,” she said.
That’s why Karylle is very thankful for her husband, Sponge Cole vocalist Yael Yuzon, who visited her three times while she was working in Singapore.
“Si Yael, the most understanding. Actually he grew up with theater actors, ‘yung mga siblings niya ay mga actors. Very supportive siya also. He’s very loving,” said Karylle.
Karylle took a leave from her hosting chores on “It’s Showtime” last August after she bagged a part in the TV series.
This was not the first time Karylle worked in Singapore for a TV series. In 2010, she appeared in the action-drama series “Point of Entry,” and in 2013, she landed a starring role in the restaurant drama “The Kitchen Musical.”
But because she is now married, she admitted that it was harder for her to work in the Asian country.
“Kahit four months ‘yung ‘Kitchen Musical,’ at ito ay two months, parang ang tagal, gusto mo na ding umuwi. Pero masaya kasi hindi kami stuck this time sa studio, so ang dami kong nakikitang Filipino kung saan-saan,” she said.
Spending time with her fellow Filipinos in Singapore made work easier for Karylle.
“Hindi ka din talaga malulungkot. You’ll never going to be alone anywhere in the world sa dami ng mga Pinoy at sa babait at thoughtful nila,” she said.
Now that she’s back, Karylle will be busy doing projects for her Filipino fans, like her concert “A Different Playground” at Teatrino in November.(MNS)
