Julie Anne San Jose has just released the album “Chasing The Light” under GMA Records that treads the same musical vibe set by her preceding EP “Forever.”
“Ayoko pong mahiwalay kasi siya sa sound nu’ng previous album, which I recorded sa New York. Gusto ko pa rin sana na ipagpatuloy ’yung ganu’ng klaseng genre pero at the same time may flavor pa rin na tatak Pinoy,” she said.
The singer is grateful for continued fan support, which has carried the promotional song “Naririnig Mo Ba” to the top of the local iTunes chart.
“Nu’ng first day po na ni-release ’yung album sobrang daming magagandang reviews at feedbacks po akong natanggap,” she said.
Julie Anne wrote two tracks for “Chasing The Light” namely “Not A Game” and “Naririnig Mo Ba.” Completing the track list are “Never Alone,” “Left Over,” “All About You,” “Just Stay” as well as “Don’t Make Me Wait” and “Take Me To Nirvana,” which she created in collaboration with Filipino-American artist C-Tru, and the title track.
The album title springs from personal experience.
“May mga times kasi sa buhay natin na sobra tayong down or discouraged. Siyempre marami rin akong na-experience na problems sa sarili ko, sa paligid, sa career, sa family,” she said.
“Hindi siya nice kung palagi ka lang nasa dilim. ’Pag nasa dilim ka, kailangan mo ring hanapin ’yung liwanag.”
One of the biggest challenges she continues to deal with is online bashing.
“Wala ka namang magawa kasi siyempre hindi mo naman sila (lahat) mapi-please. Ginagawa mo lang naman ’yung trabaho mo,” she said. “Pero for me it was a challenge and na-thrill din naman ako to do better.”
But the higher hurdle for her was facing her father’s opposition to her showbiz career, the singer said.
“Pagsali ko pa lang sa ‘Pop Star Kids’ against na siya. Ayaw niya ng showbiz kasi we’re not showbiz people saka bata pa ako nu’n, mga 12 or 13 yata ako, tapos sinabi niya ’wag na akong tumuloy kasi masisira ’yung school ko tapos mawawalan ako ng time with family,” said Julie Anne. (MNS)
