Five Dumagueteños making good in PHL national Frisbee team

DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug. 2011 (PNA) – Five young men from this capital of Negros Oriental, are making good in the Philippine Frisbee national team and are thankful for the opportunity to compete in national and international competitions.

The five Frisbee players here, picked earlier by actor Derek Ramsay to play for the Philippine team (Team Pilipinas), are Jose Antonio “Tajji” Torres Pasigna, Adrian Roy “Isoy” Delfin, Theodore Lourenz “Chubby” Flores, Joseph John “JJ” Orden and Ronan Batralo.

Ramsay first came to Dumaguete early this year as an endorser for Red Mobile during which he met with some local Frisbee players and saw their potential, said Anna Christine Pasigna, Tajji’s mother.

Ramsay returned here later, scouted for Frisbee players to play for the Philippine Team and handpicked the five Dumaguete players, came back a third time to train with them before they all played in the 2011 Shanghai open, she added.

The most veteran Frisbee team here is Team Extreme, which has been around for four years now and has competed in some events across the country despite its meager resources, she said.

Team Extreme only joins three tournaments – the Ultimo Abril in Cebu every April; Shindig in this city; and Manila Spirits which is an international tournament.

The Dumaguete Frisbee players have copped individual and team awards in the various tournaments that they have joined prior to joining the Philippine team.

Team Extreme won a number of times such as in the 2009 Manila Spirits international tournament where they came out champion in Pool C category; during the 2010 Manila Spirits international tournament held in Clark, Pampanga, they placed 1st winning over Beijing, China during their championship game in the Pool B category; in the Cebu national tournament, Ultimo Abril Quatro, last April, they grabbed the championship in the Pool A category playing against one of the strongest teams, KKK (mixed players from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao).

On August 19 to 21, Dumaguete City will be the venue for the 2011 Ultimate Shindig National Frisbee Tournament, with some 600 players from 28 teams all over the Philippines participating. â–
