Los Angeles, 21 December 2012 – Consul General Maria Hellen M. Barber De La Vega paid a courtesy call on Mayor Bob Filner on 19 December 2012 at his office in San Diego County in Southern California.

 The two officials discussed ways of stimulating Philippine-US relations. Mayor Filner conveyed his appreciation for the opportunity to dialogue with the Philippine Consul General on issues affecting San Diego and the rest of the nation and reaffirmed his support to promote the interests of the Fil-Am Community in San Diego.  On her part, Consul General De La Vega thanked the San Diego City Mayor for his consistent support to the Philippines and the Fil-Am community.

 Mayor Filner a former congressman and advocate of the Philippines is well-loved by the Filipino Community.  During his incumbency as Mayor of San Diego City, he pledges to work towards providing equal access and opportunity for Fil-Am businesses and entrepreneurs.

 San Diego County is host to about 300,000 Filipinos and Filipino Americans.
